Club America is set to launch a bid to bring Jonatha dos Santos from Villarreal as soon as this season, according to El Universal.
While his deal with the La Liga side runs through the 2018-19 season, owner Emilio Azcarraga wants the move done as soon as possible. That means Jona could arrive on loan or America could come to an agreement for a figure to convince Villarreal to sell. The report says it could be a family affair with America looking to bring in Giovani after the 2017 MLS season concludes. The brothers’ father Zizinho is nearing a deal to join the team’s staff.
DAMM’S FUTURE MAY BE IN EUROPE
Jurgen Damm may make his long-awaited move to Europe with Lazio pondering a move for the Tigres and Mexico man, according to ESPN Mexico.
The reported deal would see the Serie A side pay $10 million for 70 percent of the 24-year-old winger’s rights with the northern club retaining the rest.
RAYADOS MAKING STRONG PUSH FOR LAYUN
Monterrey is intensifying efforts to sign Miguel Layun from Porto, according to Portuguese newspaper Record.
Earlier this sumer, Univision reported that Monterrey was looking to make Layun one of the top three best-paid players in the league. Whether he moves or not, Layun will be in Mexico soon with Porto set for preseason games in Mexico City and Guadalajara.
TIGRES READY TO MATCH MEDEL’S INTER SALARY
With Guido Pizarro moving to Sevilla, Tigres are set to spend big on bringing in Gary Medel as a replacement, according to El Mercurio.
The Chilean newspaper reports that Tigres will pay an $8 million transfer fee to Inter and then give the Chilean international a three-year deal with a base salary of $2.7 million annually before bonuses.
CONTE TURNS ATTENTION TO CHICHARITO
Antonio Conte is focusing his efforts on Mexico international Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez, according to The Sun.
The Chelsea boss missed out on Romelu Lukaku despite a last-minute Blues bid, and is now considering a move for the £13.5m-rated Mexico international.
VELA WANTS TO STAY WITH SOCIEDAD
Despite offers from MLS, Chivas and Roma, Carlos Vela would rather stay with Real Sociedad, according to Diario Vasco.
The Cancun native’s contract has him with the La Liga club for one more season and local reports say he’d like to see that out rather than push for a move away from Basque Country.
PRICE TAG DETERRED GALAXY FROM GIGNAC
LA Galaxy directors flew to Marseille to meet with Andre-Pierre Gignac but were put off by the money the move would require between the transfer fee and his salary, according to a L’Equipe journalist.
That means Gignac could extend his contract with Tigres, France Football previously reported. The forward’s contract with Los Felinos expires in June 2018 and, while the report says the Galaxy would’ve been his first choice, staying in Monterrey is preferable to a move to China.
EVERTON WANTS JIMENEZ
Benfica is taking offers for Mexico forward Raul Jimenez and while Everton is interested, the Portuguese side will demand 50 million euros for a move, according to Portugal daily Record.
Benfica boss Rui Vitoria isn’t eager to sell Jimenez but would would sell if the Toffees pay the high price for Jimenez to replace likely departure Romelu Lukaku. Liverpool and West Ham also had been mentioned as landing spots for the No. 9.
CHICHARITO IS WEST HAM’S PRIORITY
After failed attempts to bring another forward to London, West Ham has turned its focus to bringing Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez back to the Premier League, according to ESPNFC .
Hernandez has a year left on his deal at Bayer Leverkusen but could be set to leave the Bundesliga. Chicharito also has been linked with a switch to Lyon (see below), while West Ham could be in for his Mexico teammates Raul Jimenez (see above).
ANDERLECHT EYEING MEXICO YOUTH INTERNATIONAL
Anderlecht is interested in bringing in Santos Laguna and former Mexico U-17 holding midfielder Ulises Rivas, according to Voetbal Nieuws .
The 21-year-old previously was linked with Serie A and MLS clubs and his agent told the Belgian outlet Rivas is set to acquire an Italian passport. Though the report indicates there is interest, it also mentions that Anderlecht won the title last year and both central midfielders Sven Kums and Pieter Gerkense are expected to stay on with the club.
ARAUJO SET FOR BUNDESLIGA SWITCH
Santos Laguna center back Nestor Araujo will be the next Mexico international to make a move abroad, according to Mexican journalist Fernando Schwartz .
Mexico coach Juan Carlos Osorio mentioned in March that the 25-year-old is ready to play in a top European league, and Schwartz reported in June that a Bundesliga move is coming after the Confederations Cup.
ESPANYOL OPTIMISTIC ABOUT KEEPING REYES
La Liga outfit Espanyol is confident it will be able to secure Diego Reyes’ rights from Porto, according to EFE , though the situation is complicated.
While the Catalan club wants to keep the center back on its roster after he spent the year there on loan from Porto, it claims it has the option to buy by June 30, while Reyes’ agent told Marca the option had expired May 31.

The player is not at the Confederations Cup because of a personal issue, but the report in Mexico claimed the 24-year-old was asked not to take part in the tournament by the club in question. While not named in the initial report, subsequent chatter included links with Milan and Barcelona and another report claiming he’d agreed to leave for Borussia Dortmund. But Porto directors said in June that those reports are simply rumors and the winger will stay in Portugal.

Club America is seeking to make a move for Atletico Nacional’s Mateus Uribe with Darwin Quintero potentially going the other way in a return to his home country, according to Fox Deportes .
